Writing and American Idol Part I (+ related contest info)

Remember the thousands of wanna-be American Idol contestants filling stadiums all over the country? Imagine they all have a laptop in front of them and they're hammering away at the keys. Because all those contestants are just like a bunch of writers, looking for a break. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Idol wannabes/writer numbers are similar, given the query statistics agents are feeding us.

Only a very small percentage of Idol wannabes packing the stadium seats actually get face time with judges. Sure, American Idol producers throw in a few crazies for entertainment purposes, but most of the people who meet Randy, Simon, Paula and Cara are fairly decent singers....just like writers who get requests for partials.

And what happens next on the road to Idolville/Authorship? Check in tomorrow, when I hope to continue this conversation.

CONTEST INFO: So now maybe I won't continue the conversation because Rachelle Gardner (agent) is holding a contest about this very freaking subject...visit her blog for info.

So who do you think is going to win? Danny? Kris? Alison? Adam?

Your right. I used to get so jazzed over partial requests. Now I see it's the full I should be doing the happy dance over. Each step gets you closer but doesn't mean you'll be the one they choose.

Yup, me too, T Anne. I don't even get excited at a full request anymore. I think the only thing that'll get me juiced up is *after* I've signed on the dotted line!!! :) (I'm thinking positive!)

I have no idea who's going to win...I think they all have stuff going for them individually. Adam's voice is so amazing and I think he's a great showman...I think he should win, but after last week, I'm not sure.

I don't get excited about partials either. I wish I did...I think I'm becoming cynical!

Early on I pegged Danny to win, and I still think he has a good shot.

I was surprised that Adam almost got Daughtried last week.

Daughtried- verb. The act of voting off the front runner in American idol when said front runner has an obvious abundance of talent and charisma when compared to the other contestants.

I actually just watch a few episodes of Idol a year, but I heard Slash of Guns N Roses may be a mentor in the next few weeks for a Rock Week. I will have to tune in for sure for that!
Good analogy!

If it is Slash, that will be this Tuesday coming up!

Danny is loveable and sweet, but I don't think I'd buy his music unless someone with a lot of marketing ability got a hold of him. (Note: This is the kind of stuff my three-year-old now discusses at the dinner table).

Great post- I like to watch AI because it does remind me of writing. Some good singers don't go far because there are 20 other singers that sound just like them... Some singers make it who are all personality and not so much voice. Interesting, no? :)
