So at the dinner table the other night, I explain how I need to beef up this firefighter character of mine. "He's kind of flat," I tell everyone. "Maybe he needs a hobby?"
Within 10 seconds, I had these suggestions:
Have him collect guns.
Have him make art out of gum.
Give him a green thumb.
:)
I think I'm doing something right around here.

Anything but guns.
Collecting match boxes would be a nice hobby for a fire fighter >:)
Cold As Heaven
Very cute and very good suggestions!! I think the firefighter should have a soft spot for opera. My kids would tell me to add fart jokes. :)
COLD: Okay! I'll respect your gun request!
KELLY: I have to fight hard to keep fart jokes out. I already have the poor girl battling underwear issues.
Most firefighters I know have too much time on their hands. They work for two straight days, then have a few off,(In NYC anyway). You can have them working on the side as home improvement contractors, house painters, stuff like that. I don't know if moonlighting is allowed, but they all do it. They're pretty good at it too.
If you're firefighter is a bad guy... a typical bad firefighter in my town will sift through valuables during a fire. Sad, but true.
If your character is truly evil, e-mail me.
Oh, SO awesome. I can't wait until my kids can brainstorm with me, and offer ideas that don't include bottoms, wee-wees, and tooties. *sigh*
Oh hahaha, I just read Kelly's comment :) Yeah, my kids and her kids would definitely come up with similar ideas :D
While I was installing a few new pieces of baseboard on Sunday, The Girl was sitting at her little table coloring and chattering to me.
Girl: "Daddy, can I tell you a story?"
Me: "Sure."
Girl: "Once upon a time..." And she launches into this sweeping epic that was a rendition of The Hobbit with some Cinderella mixed in.
Oh definitely. That sounds like great feedback.
CHARLIE: Bummer! My firefighter is a complete sweetheart, super nice. I'm thinking about giving him a twitch or maybe he constantly flexes his biceps. Still working on it.
MARISA: Those things come in handy for MG, for sure! Hah!
JOSHUA: That should make you proud! I think a lot of kids are losing their imginations, because television has taken it over for them. My kids don't watch much tv and it's just crazy and hilarious the things they come up with.
MICHAEL: :) Thanks!
Oh Anita - excellent. I heart your kids. :-)
Out of the mouths of babes! I love it!
The unfettered brilliance of children!
The Hobby thing is a great idea, you could go with your standard good guy:
"I volunteer at the local Homeless Shelter and Pantry"
or kind of out there:
"I build and paint Doll houses, it's nice to be able to build a little home after seeing so many others destroyed. Also I make a boatload of money on them on ebay, so laugh all you want."
JO: Thanks! They're pretty cool. And welcome back home--can't wait to see you!
ROMINA: Kids do say wonderful things. I want to follow them around with a mic.
ROBERT: Exactly my thoughts? Hah! :)
DREW: I like the dollhouse idea and may use, it depending on how much I develop this character. Thanks!
