Okay. After considering all the wonderful advice from the previous post I've decided to use the following two poems in my manuscript. Thank you, everyone!
ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints,—I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!—and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY
The fountains mingle with the river,
And the rivers with the ocean;
The winds of heaven mix forever,
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one another's being mingle;--
Why not I with thine?
See! the mountains kiss high heaven,
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister flower would be forgiven,
If it disdained it's brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea;--
What are all these kissings worth,
If thou kiss not me?

Beautiful.
And I was so hoping my tome would end up in your book.
True story: In the fifth grade, the hottest girl in the class gave me a Valentine's Day card with the following poetry.
"Charlie, Charlie, don't turn blue. Frankenstein was ugly too."
Yeah, things are still the same.
TONY: I think so, too!
CHARLIE: Maybe the next book, I'll use your poem...with permission, of course. And you need to locate that girl, give her a piece of your mind! :)
I was backlogged and didn't see your post yesterday until just now. I always suggest Neruda's Sonnet XVII or e.e. cummings' may i feel...
JOSHUA: Thanks! I'll check those out, too!
Sigh...such lovely poems of love enduring.
BISH: I know! I want to write like this, but I am so NOT a poet.
Excellent selections, m'lady!
KELLY: Thank you! I actually read A TON of poems...great procrastination technique, btw.
I love the second poem! I may blog about it.
Hello Anita.
Reading these is a great way to start my day. Thanks!
OCEAN GIRL: I hope you do blog about it...it's so beautiful! I am insane here with revisions, but will be visiting all my favorite blogs soon...yours included!
REBECCA: Awww! Good to know!
I love me some Shelley. Awesome.
And Browning's poem is a great choice, too, because everybody knows the first line to it...so your readers will identify with it almost immediately.
Hooray for poetry, still alive and kicking!
